It was a riot of colours as artistes, participants and spectators gathered at an east Kolkata lake area to celebrate the famous Chinese Dragon Boat Festival recently. Around five colourful boats took part in a race. This was followed by dragon dance, lion dance and other traditional Chinese cultural activities. Along with artistes from the local Chinese community, performers from China came to the city to participate in the event.
Members of Chinese consulate, including the Consul General, Ma Zhanwu, were spotted at the do. Dragon Boat Festival — one of the major festivals of China — is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the traditional Chinese calendar. This festival has recently garnered popularity in India and the Indo-Chinese society. It was initially started in 2016 in Kolkata by The Indian Chinese Association in collaboration with The Chinese Consulate General in India.
