West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that her government will launch 80 new battery operated e-buses during the puja. The CM said these buses will run in the city and in greater Kolkata area while launching 20 AC non-stop buses at Nabanna which will ferry passengers to the various district headquarters from the city. The CM termed these buses as Banglashree Express. She also flagged off 22 ambulances and 13 wrecker vans.
The CM asked the transport department to stress on road safety and put the banners of “safe drive save life” on all buses and lorries. “I will put the sticker of safe drive save life on my car too”, she said adding that, all vehicles need to display it and the school students might be used for putting the stickers on the vehicles.
She also urged the transport officials to keep a tab on fit vehicles as there are complaints of vehicles having problems on roads. She said, “As we need to keep our body fit, so the vehicles should also be fit, I have asked the police commissioner if a small wrecker van can be deployed on the Maa flyover, as often cars have problems on the flyover. So it is a necessity to start such a service”
The CM stressed the need to save lives so that no one dies due to road rage and accidents. “We need to create the awareness at the grassroots,” the CM said. The CM made a dig at Narendra Modi government as the Central government had promised to run the bullet train which still has not become a reality reality. “Instead we are running high-speed buses”, she added.
