New Town is now officially a Green City. The recognition comes from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) that has recently handed over the gold rating certificate to the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco), recognising New Town as a Green City.
New Town has already been listed as one of the top townships under the state government’s Green Cities mission scheme and recognised as a solar city too.
Hidco officials said IGBC is a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that works on enabling a sustainable built environment by rating townships and cities by leveling its ‘greenness’. The IGBC’s green building certification is accepted by the state governments for awarding additional floor area ratio (FAR).
The parameters considered by IGBC for rating New Town as a green city were eco vision of the city, land use plan, health and overall well-being, sustainable mobility, water, energy and infrastructure management, information technology and innovation.
