Conceptualised by interdisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, Footprints, a melange of spoken words and Rabindrasangeet opened to a full-house at ICCR recently. This was indeed a unique opportunity to blend the best of world poetry and the immortal melodies of Tagore, a polymath who won the world with his touch of mysticism and erudition. Poetry by Dylan Thomas, Bob Dylan, Rita Dove, Robert Frost and many others found a counterpart in songs like Jibono Moroner Sheemana Charaye, Tui Fele Eshechish Kaare, Borisho Dhora Maajhe, among others. The programme presented fashion icon Agnimitra Paul in a new avatar. Her skill with spoken words was hugely admired.
The show stealer was Soumitra Sengupta, whose piano recital with western classical compositions, entranced the audience. Sraboni Sen mesmerised everyonewith her lyrical crescendos while Sujoy was hugely applauded for his research and readings. His act on a piece by Lorca enthralled everyone. Seen among the audience who gave a standing ovation to the artistes were career diplomat Sarvajit Chakraborty, Goutam Dey of ICCR, adman Kanchan Datta and his wife Sharmila, scientist and publisher Partho Ghosh, designer Arnab Sengupta and many others.
