Four youths have been selected for a weeklong trip to Frankfurt on an invitation from a German football club in November.
Two of the youths were chosen for their performance during the Calcutta Police Friendship Cup Football tournament while the other two were picked up during similar football tournaments organised by Darjeeling and Jhargram police.
“We want to see one of our boys playing in the European League some day. The trip to Germany would give them good exposure. The idea is not just to engage with the sport but to achieve excellence,” Calcutta police commissioner Rajeev Kumar said.
Loknath Mandal, Sheikh Rintu, Manish Subba and Debkumar Khirali were handed over their invitation letters from German football club Eintracht Frankfurt at the city police headquarters on Thursday. Michael Feiner, the German consul general in Calcutta, was also present at the event.
The youths are scheduled to fly out on November 6.
