A city-based dance academy hosted an evening of classical dance festival Bhavataranga 2018 at Gyan Manch recently. It was graced by performers like Nandita Banerjee, Arnab Bandyopadhyay, Kalamandalam- Swarnadipa Mahanta, Pritam Das, Bishal Dutta.Nandita Banerjee, associated with the dance academy is a Bhraratanrtiyam dancer, from the lineage of Padmabhusan Dr. Padmasubhramaniam. She has choreographed several productions like- Draupadi, Rup-Arup, Krishnapriya Meera. And has performed throughout the country. The art form BharataNrityam is a reconstruction of the Marga tradition, which was the common dance code of South Asia, especially Bharatakhanda. The art form was revived by Dr Padmasubrhamaniam, after years of research.
The theme of Bhavataranga,2018 festival was to celebrate the classical dance forms of India. The desi styles, or those which developed as regional styles, sustained along with the marga tradition of Bharata, these are the dance forms like- Odissi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam, Bharatanatyam,Chau, Kathak, etc . In this festival, Pritam Das, a disciple of Rama Vaidyanathan, performed Bharatanatyam,Kalamandalam Swarnadipa Mohanta performed Mohiniattam,Arnab Bandyopadhyay, a disciple of Padmabhusan guru Kelucharan Mahaptra performed Odissi, Nandita Banerjee performed BharatanNrityam followed by Bishal Dutta’s performance of Kathak.
