It’s celebration time for the city with a sweet tooth. The first Bagbazar-O-Rasogolla Utsob will be held at the Bagbazar Gourimata Udyan from December 28 to December 30. The festival hosted by the Bagbazar Rasogolla Utsob Executive Committee will include an array of different sweets, especially different varieties of rasogollas.
The sponge rossogolla — the birthplace of which was a topic of debate between Odisha and West Bengal until recently — is being celebrated on its 150th birthday. The festival aims not only at promoting the state’s patented sweet, but also at revisiting the history, heritage and culture of Bagbazar, where the sweet was popularized by Nabin Chandra Das.
The three-day festival will coincide with Sarada Devi’s birthday and will be inaugurated by mayor Firhad Hakim, actor Rituparna Sengupta and other dignitaries.
“Rasogolla is closely associated to the Bengali identity and epitomizes the cultural of north Kolkata. This festival is being held to celebrate Bagbazar and in remembrance of Nobin Chandra Das”, said renowned artist Subhaprasanna.
