Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata (INK) is set to expand its facilities that include a neuro university, a research wing, increasing the number of beds and stepping up the services for patients. The institute, which started its journey in 2009, completed 10 years on Monday.

As part of the celebrations, around 40 experts in neuroscience from across the globe were in the city to attend a brainstorming session on the latest treatment options and challenges in this specific medical branch. The hospital authorities are in the process of acquiring a building near the existing facility to execute its expansion plans.

INK was the first hospital in eastern India to have come up with the facility for treatment of neurological disorders. “Currently, the hospital has got 160 beds and we are planning to increase the number,” an INK source said.

Last year, the hospital had inaugurated its annexe building where the neuro rehab and neuro-psychiatry wings are located. Besides, the building will also house the research unit and the Sano and Sengupta Academy of Aneurysm Surgery where young surgeons will get a chance to hone their skills in aneurysm surgery.
