The state government has decided to set up a model fire station at New Town, fire minister Sujit Bose said in the assembly on Tuesday. Fourteen more fire stations would be constructed across the state in the current financial year, he added.

“We have decided to develop a model fire station at New Town. The facility will have five fire tenders, all modern gadgets and adequate employees. It will also have a modern control room so that we can immediately react to any kind of fire emergency,” Bose said.

Besides, the state plans to build five fire stations in South 24 Parganas, two each in Cooch Behar and North 24 Parganas, and one each in North Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, East Midnapore, East Burdwan, Murshidabad and Alipurduar. At present, there are 141 fire stations in the state. “These additional fire stations will help control fires more effectively,” the minister said.
