A Thai national, who had got off an app cab on Friday night at a Chowbhaga Road address leaving her wallet behind that contained her identity cards and cash in both Indian and Thai currencies, was returned the purse. Policemen had tracked down the car and recovered the bag from the house of the driver early on Saturday.
Duangchaikaw Wauthawat (30), a resident of Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand, who was on a trip to the city had booked the app cab from Dover Terrace in Ballygunge around 10.30pm on Friday and got down at Chowbhaga Road in the night.
“However, while she got down, she left the purse in the app cab. She realised that the purse was missing only after the car had left and she could not recall the car’s registration number. When she came down to Tiljala police station, she seemed lost and in a lot of trouble especially because the wallet contained her identity cards. We registered the case and started a hunt for the driver,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.
Her purse had some valuable documents, including her bank passbook, licence, ATM cards, Identity card, currency of Thailand and a sum of Rs 15,000 in Indian currency.
“We started checking the CCTV footage and located the cab’s registration number. Once we found the number, we tracked down the owner’s address,” the officer said.
The owner told the cops that a driver, Rajesh Kumar (23) of Anandapur area, was driving the cab on Friday evening. Accordingly, our officers reached the residence of the driver and recovered the lost purse in intact condition and handed over the same to the woman.
