When the FaceApp has gone viral, can the Case App be far behind?
Kolkata Police, which has now made it a habit of coming up with tongue-in-cheek memes to drive home their point, has yet again hit the bullseye by cashing in on the Faceapp rage and circulating a meme that discourages motorists from drink driving. The meme has managed to garner over 2,400 hits and over 500 shares this week.
The meme shows the usual Faceapp operation in the top section — a photograph of a young man and his possible look once he ages. The lower half shows a bottle (signifying drinking) on the left and the trouble it evitably invites — a jail term. The meme, which comes just days after the Gupi Gayn Bagha Bayn one — may now be replicated by Delhi and Rajasthan police.
“Our aim is to reach out to maximum people. We are more than happy that we could touch the right chord,” said an IPS officer. “We are planning to launch something revolving around Chandrayan II,” he added.
Ever since the drive against rogue bikers started last month, cases of drink driving have left the cops worried. “The first five months this year recorded around 300-500 such cases in the city. The number has crossed 1,000 in June alone. In the special drive — from June 19 to July 14 — the number of cases stands at a staggering 1,283,” said an officer from the traffic department. The cops have also decided to write to the RTO and courts for temporary suspension of licences of the accused.
