Presidency University’s Department of Economics is organising their first annual International Summer School for faculty and research scholars. The objective is to introduce participants to emerging research areas and methodology in economics with the help of international experts. They also aim to provide an avenue for participants to present their work and receive critical inputs to improve their research output. This is the first such attempt in eastern India.

Each year, the Summer School will focus on a specific theme. This year, for instance, the focus is on three areas: macroeconomics, analysis of spatial data and network theory. Notable economists like Sudipta Sarangi, Niloy Bose, Narayan Kundan Kishor, Chetan Ghate and Meghna Agarwal will speak on the occasion.

In addition, participants will present their work before the experts to receive comments and feedback. Such sessions will be chaired by Parimal Bag (National University of Singapore), Sougata Poddar (The George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics, Chapman University) and Aniruddha Mitra (Bard College, US). These papers will also be discussed by the faculties of Presidency University, ISI Kolkata, IIM Calcutta, Calcutta University and CSSS.

The university authorities said that this is the first time that such an initiative has been taken by the university and it will benefit a huge number of students. “Recently, for our bicentenary celebrations, a number of noted authors and speakers had visited the university. This is a glorious moment for us,” said a spokesperson from Presidency university.
