Kolkata-based Shapath Das (28) loves cinema since his childhood. And his unbound love for the silver screen has taken him to the Locarno Pro U30 program. The program tries to address the issues in modern film making with workshops and discussions among the film makers across the globe under the age of 30.
The event will take place from August 7 to 17 on the theme of ‘Audience of the Future’. Shapath is the only person from South Asia to be selected for program.
“I applied for the program, following which they called me for an interview. I had a very positive interview session with them. Later I got to know that I was selected for the program,” said happy Shapath
Even though he always loved watching films, he was never actively associated with cinema until he went to Bangalore in 2010 to study engineering. During that time a friend of his introduced him to world cinema. Soon he started attending different film festivals.
His love for film interested him in active film making. Out of his sheer passion, he made a number of short films including Conviction, Vanish, and also co-directed Ipseity with film maker Sudeep Chatterjee. He has also produced an India-Bangladesh co-Production named The Old Man and the Girl with Afzal Hossain Munna. Besides making films, Shapath is actively involved with a number of film festivals and tries to find out ways to solve the issues faced by the film festivals. “Say for instance, there is a film festival in Poland named New Horizon Film Festival. For some years it was losing audience. So, independently I did a case study on the matter and sent them. On the basis of that they sent me some feedback. I have been doing these works for last six years,” he said.
