The proposed alignment for the Park Circus-Ballygunge flyover may be tweaked yet again. The bridge advisory committee has proposed to set up a two-way arm that will bifurcate from the Park Circus-bound flank of the flyover and will descend towards Gurusaday Dutta Road.
On Tuesday, a meeting was held among KMDA officials and members of the committee to discuss the project proposal. The authorities are working on finalising the alignment along with the ramp provision before floating tenders.
As per the latest proposal, it would be appropriate to keep a provision to have a left-turning arm to descend on Gurusaday Dutta Road from the Park Circus-bound flank. The two-way arm is expected to decongest Gurasaday Dutta Road and Syed Amir Ali Avenue crossing. A recent survey has shown that about 1,500 cars are likely to use the proposed Park Circus-Ballygunge flyover during peak hours.
Sources said that a section of KMDA officials has raised a question on availability of space to set up the arm towards Gurusaday Dutta Road. “The pros and cons of the proposal is being looked into. Availbility of space may be an issue that needs to be studied in detail,” said a KMDA official.
Earlier, KMDA had floated a tender to set up a left-turning ramp from Maa flyover that was supposed to move along Syed Amir Ali Avenue before terminating before the Anil Moitra Road-Gariahat Road crossing. However, the tender was cancelled last month after the advisory committee came up with a revised plan not to bifurcate an arm from Maa flyover but to set up a two-way flyover from Park Circus to Ballygunge.
