Tantuja is going to launch five varieties of tant sarees during the Pujas, Swapan Debnath, minister of state for MSME and Textiles, said while inaugurating Tanter Haat, a fair at Central Park in Salt Lake on Saturday afternoon.
The new varieties of tant sarees are Apurba, Sreyoshi, Ruchira, Subhangi and Naba Patrika.
Debnath said that in 2018-19, Tantuja has made a profit of Rs 14 crore, while the turnover was Rs 252 crore. He said during the Left Front regime, the annual turnover was Rs 55 crore and the erstwhile government had decided to shut it down.
He said the weavers are being looked after properly by the state government and professionals are designing the Tantuja sarees.
