Students of Sarada Prasad Free Institution in East Burdwan’s Chakdighi stayed away from the Durga Puja celebrations and, instead, spent one of the festive days to remember Vidyasagar, who had set up the school in 1857.
While setting up this school and others in the area, Vidyasagar lived in the Chakdighi home of zamindar Sarada Prasad Sinha Roy, who had funded the school’s establishment. The students held a programme at Roy’s home on Nabami after garlanding the chair Vidyasagar used.
Roy’s descendant Ambarish Prasad Sinha Roy said, “Rekindling Vidyasagar’s memories is important. I will renovate the house Vidyasagar stayed in.”
