Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh, who was in town for a music concert, spoke to us about all that he loves about the City of Joy. His show, at a Salk Lake club, was attended by hordes of fans. Sharing stage with him at the event was singer Madhavi Srivastav. Said Sukhwinder, “In the rural areas of Bengal, there’s a treasure trove of raw talent. We just need to find them. At my concert this time, I was accompanied by Madhavi.

She is the winner of a reality show from Bengal. She’s from a village and is one of the best singers in the country right now. She’s hardly 16 years old but is extremely talented.” In this age of remixes, Sukhwinder is one of the few singers who haven’t lent his voice to any remix number yet. On being asked remixes, he shared, “People love good music. Remix tab hota hai when people do not have access to good music. But, we still have composers like Ajay-Atul, Salim-Sulaiman or Vishal Shekhar, who are coming up with good, original music. But, if there’s a remix of a Kishoreda song being made, I will definitely sing it because I know I will be best suited for that.”

Talking about his fans from the city, the singer added, “The people of Kolkata love me a lot. Bengalis have a very good technical understanding of music as well. I love coming back to the city as I receive a lot of warmth from my fans here.” A foodie at heart, Sukhwinder loves Bengali cuisine. “I love Bengali dishes. The sweets that we get here are to die for. Every time I visit Kolkata, I pack a lot of sweets and mishti doi for my friends and family back in Mumbai. The moment I land at the airport in Mumbai, mithai khanewale sab bahar hi wait karte hai airport ke! The dabbas get distributed then and there. I also love the Bengali maacher jhol,” the singer signed off.
