The 3.5 lakh pensioners in Bengal will now be able to submit their life certificates online. They will be able to start the process from Tuesday itself, according to official sources. The pensioners, however, will have to visit any treasury or bank, for a one-time registration.
It is mandatory for pensioners to submit their life certificates in November every year.
The state finance secretary, H K Dwivedi, issued a notification in this regard a week back. The notification stated that it was being done to help the elderly pensioners, who now have to physically appear in the treasury or bank for submitting their life certificates.
The notification stated that even the family pensioners are eligible to apply for digital life certificate. However, it is not compulsory to a submit digital life certificate. One can also opt for submitting physical life certificate at a bank or the treasury as part of the on going process.
An official said that normally the pensioners have to submit their life certificate to the treasury or at the bank from where the pension is paid. But for that, they need to get the life certificate either from a gazetted officer or from the manager of the bank.
A senior finance department official said that once the digital life certificate system is there, it will help to stop payments of those who have died.
