For the first time at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), a session has been designed to felicitate those who act both in cinema and theatre. Among the legendary actors who will be present today at the Ektara Mancha in Nandan is Soumitra Chatterjee. Said Chatterjee, “Yes, I have received a letter from KIFF. I have had a word with Param (Parambrata Chatterjee) on this. He said those who have done both theatre and films will be felicitated. I agreed to attend this because Param had called me up. I have a shooting scheduled on Tuesday and will go there once my shooting is over.” Speaking about those who balance stage and screen with ease, he said, “I don’t think this is a big challenge. I think those who say so are not that aware of the craft of our profession. In the beginning, everyone who worked in our cinema was from stage. Many among them are so good that it is difficult to get better cinema actors than them. That list would include someone like Tulsi Chakrabarty.”
Meanwhile, KIFF chairperson Raj Chakrabarty is happy that such icons have agreed to attend KIFF on Tuesday. “Apart from Soumitrada, we will also be felicitating Rudraprasad Sengupta, Swatilekha Sengupta, Bibhas Chakraborty, Manoj Mitra, Arun Mukherjee, Ashok Mukhopadhyay and Naseeruddin Yusuf. There will be panel discussion on the transition between films and theatre and vice versa. Sohini Sengupta will host the programme along with Param,” Raj signed off.
