The festival of colours, Holi, has brought with it a season of fun and laughter. The city and its clubs are gearing up to celebrate the occasion with much fanfare. While Shantiniketan is the place for most lovers of colours, the city’s Calcutta Rowing Club is trying to bring the essence here. “We have organised a Holi programme on March 7 on the club premises for those who will miss celebrating Basanta Utsav in Shantiniketan. Many famous artistes from Shantiniketan have joined the club’s own talents to present a unique programme at the lawn meant only for our members and their guests. The arrival of spring will see the members enjoy abir khela and dance drama on that day. Later on March 9, there will again be abir khela and a grand lunch,” said Chandan Roy Choudhury, secretary of Calcutta Rowing Club.
The 161-year-old club has organised the two days of abir khela (playing with gulal) but they refrain from with colours. The club members are looking forward to a grand show of their two months of rehearsals. Everyone will be turning up in ethnic outfits on the special day.
