Jubin Nautiyal, who was recently in Kolkata for an event, tells CT about his love for Kolkata, his passion for music and his forthcoming projects. Read on:
So, what brings you to Kolkata this time? How was the experience?
My love for good food and great music brings me to Kolkata every time. I love the rich culture of music the most. Kolkata is one of the places, where every artiste finds an audience with great understanding. People want to understand every form of art. Playing music in Kolkata is always a great experience as there is a special love for soul and melody. This time, however, I was here for a college event. I had a ball playing for the students and interacting with them.
What does music mean to you?
Music means everything to me. It is the food for my soul and I am blessed to have that as a career. It is one of the most personal forms of magic that all living beings experience and I feel blessed to be a small magician, who gets to create music and bring those happy smiles and tears for my listeners.
What according to you are the pros and cons of being in the music industry? What is that one thing you would want to change?
I think everything has pros and cons. Commercialisation has affected the richest side of music — the classical music. But at the same time it has also created many opportunities for singers like me, who come from nowhere with dreams in their eyes. Honestly, there is nothing I would like to change… I believe everything happens for a reason and we’re living in a great time where the music industry is creating opportunities for so many artistes and art forms. Music industry is growing and spreading fast. Earlier it used to seem far-fetched for an artiste without any background go to Bombay and be a part of the industry. But today, music industry has grown so much that it has created place for raw talents.
How active are you on social media?
I do interact with my fans a lot. That way I get true reviews of my work. Fans are critical and will always give you the most genuine review of your work and it helps me get better. I feel blessed for all the love and attention I get. I owe my fans a lot.
Last year has been great in terms of film songs, like Tujhe Kitna Chahein Aur in Kabir Singh, Dil Jaaniye in Khandani Shafakhana and so on…
Last year was amazing. And 2020 is looking up with more creative opportunities. There are many big projects and videos lined up. This year, my fans will get to listen to many new flavours of me, one of them is from the upcoming movie, Sadak 2. I am very excited.
Any new single coming up?
I would soon be shooting for a new romantic single.
