Odissi danseuse Dona Ganguly has started planning how to restart her dance classes, now that the government has started easing lockdown restrictions. “We have decided to restart classes a week after schools and colleges reopen in Kolkata. We don’t want to take any unnecessary risks and will follow all norms, including social distancing. My school has a huge number of students. So, I will teach them in batches of 15-20 dancers,” Dona told us.
Stating that online classes are keeping her students happy so far, she said, “Many of them don’t feel like exercising or practising alone. But thanks to the online classes, they are doing it. But most students faced problems with video calls, especially those living on the outskirts where Internet connectivity is an issue. So we decided to leave the children out for now and focus on the senior students, who perform professionally,” Dona told us.
On the personal front, the danseuse is waiting for daughter Sana’s exam. “She couldn’t appear for all her exams due to the lockdown and the CBSE has just released the new schedule. We are waiting for the ISC schedule for the rest of the subjects. Besides, Sana is appearing for a lot of universities in the UK. But there’s no clarity when their sessions are going to start. Moreover, cooking is her hobby and she’s trying a lot of dishes. We are having treats at home on most days now,” she said with a smile.
When asked about her husband, Sourav Ganguly, Dona said he is mostly staying indoors and doing a lot of BCCI online meetings. “He also shot for an episode of SaReGaMaPa from home and is busy sending messages to the brands he endorses. These are being uploaded on their social media handles,” she said.
