The West Bengal consumer affairs department, in an attempt to increase awareness and protect consumer rights, inaugurated six new offices in six subdivisions on Wednesday.
Consumer affairs minister Sadhan Pande said this would help increase awareness among people at the grassroots. Bengal was leading in the consumer rights awareness movement, he added.
The subdivisional offices at Haldia in East Midnapore, Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas, Basirhat in North 24 Parganas, Uluberia in Howrah, Jangipur in Murshidabad and Chanchal in Malda would be able to serve more people and help reduce their harassment, the minister said.
Due to Covid restrictions, the new offices will be functional from the district offices concerned.
The department is now planning to bring out more mobile vans to create consumer awareness. Pande said the new offices will widen the existing network of consumer rights protection and help impove the delivery of fair business practice.
