A 20 million gallon capacity jetty and pump house along with two drinking water treatment plants of 10MGD capacity each — constructed by KMDA was inaugurated by state urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim at Howrah’s Padmapukur on Tuesday.
Hakim said that the demand for water was increasing in Howrah. “A few more boosting stations will have to be completed that would ensure equal distribution of water across Howrah, ending water woes here,” Hakim said, adding that the cost of the entire project was Rs 227 crore.
According to officials, about 10 lakh people under Howrah Municipal Corporation area will benefit from the project.
A 112 km long pipeline from the treatment plant will supply purified water across Howrah and two 4.5km pipelines will bring in the untreated water.
