You can now choose your seat on a bus, tram or vessel and book it online. There will be no need to stand in a queue and jostle for a seat. West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) on Sunday made the booking app available on Google Play. It will be available on App Store from March. Booking of the heritage river cruise and special tram services will begin on February 7.
“The app — WBTC Ticket Booking — will serve passengers on long-distance buses, Kolkata heritage river cruise, boat library and special tram tour packages. Even the next Puja Parikrama seats will be booked through the app,” said WBTC managing director RVS Kapoor.
There may be teething problems but this is already in use in cities across the world and should work fine in Kolkata too. This can help bring people back to using public transport more frequently.
Puja Parikrama entails special bus and tram trips for pandal hopping. On the day of immersion, a special ferry will a four-hour trip to see all immersion ghats while dinner is served on the vessel.
