Says Turni Dhar, a jet-setting professional who quit her high-profile job with a wine company during the pandemic to start a venture aimed at providing support to the elderly
The pandemic changed everything. It changed my life and outlook. It shook me up and I realised that we have taken everything for granted even the air that gives us oxygen to breathe. My stint with the liquor industry came to a halt. A career of 17 years became uncertain and I had to rethink and restart. Everything around me looked dismal with people losing their jobs and heading towards an uncertain future.
A nagging thought became a reality overnight. Along with Joyee Barik and Swarnaditya Upal Das, we started Dependablez in July 2020 which aims at giving home care services to senior citizens whose kids are settled abroad. There was no time to do a recce and we immediately got going with the support of our friends. It was a learning experience and with each passing day, we learnt how to handle covid patients at home, arrange for beds in a hospital during an emergency, send homemade food for elderly people, arrange for a doctor’s visit in a jiffy, get pathological tests done and above all be a constant support for all the helpless senior citizens. Compassion and empathy is our strength. When we manage to help elderly people be it from a medical situation or from some domestic-related problems, we feel proud and happy. We are constantly adding more services to suit the needs of the elderly. It’s not an easy job yet the love that we receive from our elderly clients is priceless.
