It all started during the lockdown, when Viraj Khanna, son of fashion designer Anamika Khanna, gave life to his new project: collage art. After months of creation, Viraj, only recently, displayed his works through an exhibition that witnessed dignitaries from different walks of life in attendance.
“We were looking for content for our Instagram and I started cutting up magazines and encyclopedias to create collage art. I use the same collage prototype for canvases and sculptures as well. The lockdown gave me a lot of time to experiment because we were sitting at home and not much was happening. Luckily, at home, I had around 200 fashion magazines from all over the world and I started using those for collages. I experimented, constructed and created. It was a first for me,” Viraj told us while explaining the concept of the artworks.
Anamika, who was spotted attending to the guests, said she was a ‘proud mother’. “It happened all of a sudden! One day, he picked up a brush and started painting as well. It was very interesting to watch this at home. He was painting everywhere in the house and I was stressed out as there were colours everywhere,” she told us, jokingly. “But his thoughts were clear. My involvement was restricted to watching and critiquing. Vishesh and I kept on telling him, ‘this is not ok’ and ‘that is not ok’. But I am extremely proud today. For a mother it is an incredible moment watching all the guests coming in to witness her son’s work,” she added.
Industrialist Harsh Neotia, sporting a new, bearded look, was spotted enjoying the artworks. “Lockdown allows you to experiment with yourself too! I was bored, so I started growing a beard,” he joked. Rajat Dalmia, Honorary Consul of Luxembourg, said, “The exhibition shows Viraj’s spectacular creativity and confidence.”
