West Bengal: Ham operators to assist administration in Cyclone Yaas relief and rescue work

A team of ham radio operators of the West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club) has been involved by the South 24 Parganas district administration’s disaster management section to assist the district administration in relief and rescue work.

The radio operators will provide uninterrupted communication with all the surrounding areas keeping in view the impending Cyclone Yaas.
A team of 38 Ham radio operators are working and a temporary station has been set up at Kakdwip for the purpose.

The team will provide all assistance in relief and rescue work as it would be required in four coastal areas of Mousuni, G-plot, Ghoramara and Kakdwip subdivision area.
“Our team has already started working and we are conveying all information to the district magistrate. We are also maintaining communication with Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hoogly from here and would be trying to provide uninterrupted communication during any rescue and relief operation that may be required,” said Ambarish Nag Biswas, secretary, West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club)

In the city, Kolkata Police has also involved a team of HAM radio operators from West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club) to assist the police’s disaster management team.
