During the pandemic, researchers and scholars at Jadavpur University (JU) published more papers in science journals than any other university in the state.
Between December 1, 2020 and November 30, 2021, JU has ranked fourth among universities in the country on publications in science journals. Only University of Hyderabad, University of Delhi and Benaras Hindu University have published more journals than JU.
Among all research-based institutions, JU has ranked 19th in the Nature Index ranking of research institutions in India based on publications in selected science journals.
JU has also ranked second among state universities in the Centre for World University Ranking. Punjab University has bagged the first rank. Overall, JU occupies the 19th rank among higher education institutions that include IITs, IIMs and research institutions.
“We are extremely happy that JU has been able to sustain its quest for excellence in the realm of teaching and research. Despite the pandemic situation and infrastructure constraints, science department colleagues have been able to prove their work that has been reflected in the ranking. We we managed to achieve success despite the fund constraint.
“ So, I expect the central government should take cognisance of our excellence and provide us adequate funds,” said vice-chancellor Suranjan Das.
