Such nuggets about Calcutta and its heritage are just an app away. Download the app, plug in your earphones, hit the walking trail and get immersed in the city’s rich history. A Mumbai-based start-up has recently launched audio tours of Calcutta. HopOn India offers two tours – one around Dalhousie and the other in Pathuriaghata. The Dalhousie or BBD Bag Walking Tour covers 23 locations across 3km and is likely to take a little over two hours.Packed with information and peppered with anecdotes and music, the app will take travellers through Curzon Park, Esplanade Mansion, Raj Bhavan, The Lalit Great Eastern, St John’s Church and the Laldighi crossing. The second walk – Pathuriaghata: Finding the Tagores – guides one through 24 locations for a taste of the city’s art and culture. This walk would take around an hour and a half but can be broken up to suit the explorer. It starts from Girish Park and covers such landmarks as Shib Krishna Daw House, Bhim Nag, Ganesh Talkies and Darpannarayan Temple. The app is available both on Android and Apple platforms. A single walk costs Rs 399 and a package of both comes at Rs 499. The app will remain valid for two months from the date of download.
