The Indian Air Force will open an adventure park at the Bagdogra Air Force Station on Wednesday as part of the 72nd Independence Day celebrations and has lined up a series of other events in the next seven days.
On Wednesday, Santosh Chaudhary, the president of the Air Force Wives’ Welfare Association at the IAF station, will inaugurate the Freedom Adventure Carnival at the adventure park of the Eastern Air Command Nodal Centre in Bagdogra.
“The park will have over 60 types of land, air and water adventure activities. Among them are power hang-gliding, parasailing, zorbing, rappelling, para-motor, and rock climbing,” said a source.
During the carnival, students aged above 12 from Air Force School, Bagdogra, will be given basic theory and practical training in disaster management and rescue drills. They will also be exposed to adventure sports at the park.
The Air Force Station has also lined up a static display named “Know Your Forces” for the school and college students and general public on August 11 and 12. The event will showcase air power capabilities of the country through display of the IAF assets like aircraft and missile systems.
“The display will be open for common people and students from 10am to 5pm on August 11 and from 9am to 1pm on August 12,” the source said.
The carnival will conclude on the Independence Day.
Air Commodore Manu Chaudhary, the AOC of Bagdogra Air Force Station, will be the chief guest of the closing ceremony, said sources.
