The second edition of Kolkata Police half marathon on Sunday will witness participation of more than 12,000 runners. The run, which will start around 5.30am from Red Road, will be unique as it offers runners competing in the 21km run to cover two of the city’s biggest flyovers. There will be separate 10km and 5km runs, too, and the latter is open to everyone. The cops had earlier launched the event’s website and vests.
This half marathon will not just be the “longest flyover run” in the world, it also promises a unique experience, thanks to the route that has been chosen along the longest stretch of Maa Flyover. Usually, such marathon routes cover crowded city streets or scenic locations outside the city, where one can enjoy the nature while running. But Kolkata Police half marathon will give runners the opportunity to try something different, traversing the city on an elevated route.
Several roads will be shut in south Kolkata from 4am on Sunday till noon for the marathon to be conducted smoothly.
