The state has given a go-ahead to Jadavpur University to introduce 90% reservation for domicile candidates under the general category from the 2019-2020 academic session in the engineering faculty.
Out of the approximately 1,200 seats in JU’s engineering faculty, 45% is reserved for candidates under SC, ST, OBC, PH and others. The domicile reservation will be applicable on the remaining seats.
JU will also have to define the term domicile and may include central government employees under the definition. “We will have to make a decision on the status of refugees and those who may have shifted outside the state after living in Bengal for a long time,” the source added.
“We received the approval from the state on Thursday. The modalities of admissions will be fixed by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board,” said dean of engineering faculty Chiranjib Bhattacharya.
