The birth centenary of dance maestro late Shambhu Bhattacharya became an occasion for a three-day dance festival where dance groups from India and abroad performed at the Jorasanko Thakurbari Dwarakanath Mancha recently. The programme in association with West Bengal State Academy of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts, Rabindra Bharati University, saw hundreds of people gather at the venue. “Dance has been of my keen interest my entire life. I have been taught by my dance guru late Shambhu Bhattacharya since the very beginning. He would love to study life from close and imbibe some of the life lessons in his work through dance movements. His dance compositions in Salil Chowdhury’s Ranar and Obak Prithibi in Satyajit Ray’s Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne and Tarun Majumdar’s Fuleswari are unforgettable. It is my great honour that I could pay my tribute to him through the festival,” said Kabir Sen Barat, festival convener and choreographer.
