The New Town Kolkata Development Authority and Hidco have taken up a slew of measures to tackle Covid-19 in the township.

The authorities have introduced a WhatsApp-based health advisory line for New Town residents with the help of NKDA medical officers.

NKDA has also formed a core team to coordinate with the quarantine centres in New Town. Another team is working to get masks and hand sanitizers from agencies. They are then distributing them to staffers involved in assisting health authorities responsible for keeping New Town quarantine centres clean.

The core team is maintaining liaison with the health department, district administration and the police. They have drawn up a list of nodal representatives from each housing complex, block and IT building in New Town.

The core team has been provided with six full-body personal-protection equipment to assist ambulance drivers, who may be called to shift patients to Beliaghata ID Hospital. This was done after New Town cops said that ambulance drivers were refusing to take Covid-19 suspects to the ID Hospital.

Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority on Monday planned to set up three hand sanitiser kiosks in Sector V and 12 in New Town. A local residents’ welfare group of New Town has also made 200 masks and distributed them among locals.
