With the #coronascare increasing around the world, social distancing and self-quarantine has been the only way to protect ourselves from the pandemic. As a result, artistes have cancelled their concerts and international trips are being called off. This fear has also led to the shutting down of their weekly classes. In these times of despair, elocutionist Samya Karpha has resorted to online classes to keep the momentum going.

Be it Kolkata, Gurgaon or Melbourne – the scenario of despair is pretty much the same in all parts of the world. Trying to avoid depression and staying engaged is what is suggested in the times and artistes are coming forward with their craft. “I believe poetry can heal this situation and can help us fight this darkness and wait for the light. This belief helped me to curate the idea of an online interactive session mainly dealing with poetry. The first session took place today and it was well-appreciated and well-attended,” said Samya.

The first session had five participants from Melbourne, one from Gurgaon, one from Bhubaneswar and eleven from different parts of Kolkata. They recited poems, shared how they are positively utilising the ample time and how their countries are fighting against the virus.
