Not just stray dogs and cats, a number of people have come forward to to feed the stray horses in and around Maidan area. While Kolkata Mounted Police has already started helping these poor animals, a few animal lovers have also joined hands.
All these horses were used to pull carriages around Maidan and Victoria Memorial and were abandoned by their owners after the lockdown was announced. Radhika Bose, a animal rights activist, said that even though the horses are able to find food from Maidan, many of them are suffering from malnutrition. “Without their owners, they were not getting proper food and many of these horses are pregnant. For last few days we have started feeding them along with Kolkata Police. There are some 150 horses,” she added.
