Tarak Singh, member, mayor-in-council of Kolkata Municipal Corporation is now distributing milk powder to families in his ward 118. Singh has already distributed powdered milk packets of 1kg each to 58 families. He said that poor families who have babies below one year are being given milk powder as many of them are finding it difficult to get baby food during the lockdown period.
Singh said he had already distributed 4kg rice, 1kg pulse, 2kg vegetables, 3kg potatoes and four soaps to 4,000 poor families in his ward for 15 days. “We have already given the dole to poor families in two phases. I am using my personal contacts to collect food grains and vegetables,” Singh said.
He added that through KMC relief fund, he had handed over Rs 1,440 to 68 persons each of BPL category. The councillor said he was trying to ķeep the ward free from contamination through fumigation as some Covid-19 cases had been reported from nearby areas.
