On the 159th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Israel paid him a heartwarming tribute by sharing a picture of a street named after him in Tel Aviv. The street starts right opposite the main gates of Tel Aviv University.

The information was shared by the official Twitter handle of Israel in India.

The official account shared the picture of the street with the caption, “We honor #RabindranathTagore today and every day, as we named a street in Tel Aviv in memory of his valuable contribution to mankind.”

The decision to name a street after Tagore was taken by the Tel Aviv Municipality in 1961. This was done to commemorate the centenary of his birth.

After the news was posted, many people took to the comments section to praise the country for remembering the poet on his birth anniversary. One user wrote, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to Israel for remembering World Poet Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore on his 159th birthday, 25th of Baishakh.”

While Israel celebrated Rabindra Jayanti by sharing a picture of a street named after Tagore, closer home, fans celebrated the Bard of Bengal with their special lockdown tributes on the internet.

A balcony concert by the duo Nandy Sisters – Antara and Ankita – in the honour of Rabindranath Tagore went viral on the Internet. They sang two of Tagore’s classics – Mamo Chitte and Amaar Bela Je Jaye, on their Ukulele.

As for the West Bengal government’s official event at Rabindra Sadan, it was cancelled this year because of the novel coronavirus crisis. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid her tribute at Rabindra Sadan located inside the Nandan complex.

Every year, Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated on the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh. Rabindranath Tagore was born on this particular day in 1268 of the Bengali calendar.
