Sharmila Tagore, Aparna Sen and many others join hands to raise money for Amphan-hit Bengal

Several singers, musicians and artistes from across the country will get together for an online event, Pray For Bengal 2020, on June 6. It is a fundraiser event, organised by Stay (A)live Concerts and The Global Bengali and supported by over 30 organisations from India, Europe, America and Australia to help in the relief work post the massive devastation caused by cyclone Amphan in West Bengal recently.

Some of the popular names who will perform in this virtual gala include Sharmila Tagore, Aparna Sen, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Anup Jalota, Lopamudra Mitra, Srabani Sen, Shaan, Raghab Chattopadhyay, Paroma Banerjee, Pt Tanmoy Bose, Usha Uthup, Parambrata Chatterjee and many others. The hosts of this event will be Piloo Vidyarthi, Sangeeta Dutta and Surojoy Bhowmik.

Singer Srabani Sen, who is looking forward to perform in this fundraiser event, said, “Bengal is going through a difficult phase. This is just our small effort to let people know that we are with them. We want to help the needy in times of such distress.”

The online event will have musical performances, recitations and reading sessions. Music composer Arindom Chatterjee, who is also a part of the show, said, “It’s a great initiative and when the organisers approached me for this event, I agreed immediately. I will be glad if we could contribute to the massive relief work that’s going on in our state post the cyclone Amphan disaster. We are all in this together and I am sure Bengal will get back on its feet very soon.”

Singer Raghab Chattopadhyay, who feels that music is the best healer, said, “We are uniting for a common cause and music, I believe, is the best healer. This fundraiser event is a wonderful initiative and I am glad to be a part of it. I hope the proceeds from this online show will help in the relief work.” The online event will be streamed across different time zones in the US, UAE, India, London and Sydney.
