The next time a commuter wishes to recharge or top-up his Kolkata Metro smart card, he or she can do it from the comfort of his home without physically going to the counter. Metro Railway has developed a very user- friendly method of recharging smart cards online for its commuters. Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway has launched this facility on Tuesday at Metro Rail Bhavan, Kolkata.
In order to avail this facility, Metro smart card users will have to visit Metro Railway Kolkata website https://mtp.indianrailways.gov.in and click on the “on-line recharge” option after which a very user – friendly menu-driven facility will guide the commuters to the payment option.
No transaction charges have to be paid by the commuters for recharging their smart cards. However, they will continue to get a 10 percent bonus on the recharging amount of their smart cards as before. Anyone willing to recharge their smart cards can use SBI debit cards, any other bank’s debit cards or credit cards, UPI App, Net banking or by using the YONO App. Joshi dedicated this facility to the Metro commuters and said that it will fulfill their long-standing demand of on-line recharging of smart cards. He also thanked State Bank of India and CRIS for their support and cooperation
D.S. Nirkha, General Manager, State Bank of India, Eastern Zone was also present at this function. At present, there are 7 lakh active smart card users of Kolkata Metro. From now onwards, they will be able to recharge their smart cards online. However, commuters can also recharge their smart cards from the ticket counters as before.
