With the dengue scare looming large, The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) have requested educational institutions located in New Town to observe a cleaning week to prevent stagnant water accumulation within their campuses.

“The institutes have been requested to observe a cleaning week focusing on preventing water accumulation in their campuses to prevent breeding of mosquito larvae. They have been specially requested to see the rooftops of their buildings to check any accumulation of water and that the housekeeping or facility management team should be pressed to conduct cleaning the campus to prevent spread of dengue,” said a NKDA official.

NKDA is releasing about 50,000 Guppy fish in the canal water and other waterbodies. The authorities are also conducting fogging, spraying of the larvacide and conducting door to door surveys to advice residents to seek immediate medical attention in case there was a suspicion of dengue.

The authorities also informed the institutions that their students could take part in the greening efforts and other campaigning activities conducted by NKDA on social distancing, wearing mask, hand washing, no water accumulation, no Plastics, no littering, segregation of waste at source and so on.

“Many of the institutions have agreed to come up with their proposals on this after the institutes opens up after the lock down,” said a NKDA official.
