The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) on Tuesday inaugurated a two lane service road bridge over Bagjola canal in New Town which will help motorists to reach Biswa Bangla convention centre more easily.
The service road bridge was opened after a field visit by Hidco chairman and managing director Debashis Sen along with other Hidco officials and engineers at the spot.
Officials said that the Bagjola canal divides Action Area 1 and 2 of New Town. It was back in 2003 that a six lane bridge was constructed to connect both Action Areas along with the main arterial road. However, the main arterial road, which has now been named as Biswa Bangla Sarani is now a 10 lane corridor but there was some disturbance in traffic movement after approaching the bridge which is of six lane.“This was creating traffic inconveniences for motorists. Now, the two lane service road bridge has been set up at one side where the Biswa bangla convention centre is located and the other two lane service road bridge is coming up soon. With the two lane each service road bridges, the Bagjola canal bridge will become a 10 lane corridor keeping in sync with the 10 lane main arterial road stretches approaching from both ends for easier traffic movement,” said a Hidco official.
