The state forest department plans to grow sandalwood trees across the state. A special team will visit the districts to conduct surveys and soil tests to see which areas would be suitable for planting sandalwood trees.
“When there can be so many sandalwood trees across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, then why not here?” the forest department minister Jyotipriya Mullick said during the launch of the statewide ‘Bana Mahotsav’ scheme in Central Park, Salt Lake on Wednesday.
Mullick said teams will be sent across districts to conduct surveys and soil tests. “The plan is to plant sandalwood trees in places where the soil is suitable. If we initiate now, we will get results after 10 years,” the minister said.
