At a time when many old bus routes are either shutting down or reducing frequency, there is good news for New Town and Rajarhat residents.
While a route between Kamalgazi and Karigori Bhawan debuted with two buses on Wednesday, another five AC CNG buses (the biggest CNG private bus route for now) will run between Ultadanga 15 number bus stand and Sharpoorji (AC-12 bus stand) from next Monday.
Sources said the first day bus run on the Kamalgazi and Karigori Bhawan route received positive response.
The new Ultadanga-Shapoorji route has been so planned as the CNG filling station is located at New Town. A meeting of the private operators of City Suburban Bus Service, transport minister Firhad Hakim and senior transport department officers took place in this regard on Wednesday.
“It was decided to start operations from May 16 around 11am. Hakim will be inaugurating the first run. It will be a 17.5 km-long route and there will be 31 seats. Fares will be in the range of Rs 20, Rs 30 and Rs 35,” said general secretary of the union Titu Saha.
