Kolkata’s popular English band, The Urban Monkz, had a dream show recently at a city pub. The music band paid a tribute to Bollywood’s one of the most loved music composers AR Rahman. The show saw a packed house with the audience requesting his popular songs and joining the singers in chorus. The lead singer of the band, Bucha, shared, “Paying tribute to India’s finest, the inimitable Mr Rahman, was one of the most mammoth tasks we’ve undertaken as a band. Once we were past the point of selecting songs from his vast repertoire, it came down to translating and interpreting traditional Indian sounds for a guitar-heavy setup like ours. Of course, we were ably supported by Sourav Chatterjee who was more than happy to join us on percussion duties. It turned out to be a fun night for the audience and us, and we ended up learning a lot from picking up Mr Rahman’s songs.”
