Popular musicians from the city performed at a cafe on Sunday for a noble cause. Organised by musician Sourjyo Sinha, also member of the band Whale in the Pond, the musical event aimed to raise funds for the victims of the Assam floods. The show was titled Barak, named after the river that flows through the state of Assam, apart from Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram.
Talking to us, Sourjyo said, “I hail from Assam and I am deeply saddened to see my people’s plight due to the floods. The devastating floods require relief efforts. So, a lot of like-minded musicians came together for a fundraising concert. All proceeds from this gig will be donated to organisations actively working to provide on-ground relief. This is a small effort on my part to give back to my state during its time of crisis.”
The city artistes who performed at the event were Paloma and Adil. The Kolkata-based bands in performance included CIA, Fiddler’s Green, Whale in the Pond and a few members of Lakkhichhara.
Gaboo, popular musician and drummer of Lakkhichhara, who performed at the gig, said, “Half of my band members including Bodhisattwa, Rajiv and me, played at the gig. It was nice to play a stripped down unplugged set after a long time. The audience was nice and intimate. The turnout was good. We loved the performances by all the artistes present at the event.”
